Meet Dev, The Canadian Yogi
Hi there! I am an energetic traveler originally from Toronto, Canada. Before settling in Stockholm, Sweden, I was fortunate enough to travel around the world. I have worked in six different countries, sailed the Pacific Ocean, and either practiced or taught yoga in 10 countries. Through my travels, I have found that I crave being present and creating new connections with people. I found that the greatest fulfillment is helping people de-stress and, by doing so, helping them find their inner peace and balance, whether at work, at home, or simply on their mat.
My journey to yoga began at the young age of three. At this time, my father passed away, and I was forced to feel a new set of emotions. As I grew up, I found that I had an increased sense of empathy for others, and I craved deeper connections. I found myself open and listening to the struggles of others, which led me to the understanding that I wanted to help people.
Throughout my adolescence, I was also an athlete. I won many athletic awards and played college volleyball. As I headed into my adult years, I struggled with my new identity of no longer being an "athlete", the tightness and pain that came with years of playing sports, and the fear that I would not keep my fitness as I aged.
My life lessons and self-discoveries up until this point put me on the path to receiving a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion at George Brown College in Toronto, ON. I had expanded my knowledge of human anatomy, but I still struggled with finding peace and balance within.
I started to do more research, and I came across the benefits of yoga. I started practicing and simply couldn’t get enough. I felt more open and free within my body than I had ever felt before. I thought, What a crime it would be not to share this practice. I enrolled myself in a 200-hour Yoga Alliance program on the beautiful island of Koh Phangan, Thailand, and thus my time of teaching yoga began.
I look forward to working with you, to help you find your peace and destress your life!
-Dev
